IPOH: Those wait-listed for the haj need only pay heed to official announcements from Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), says Idris Ahmad.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said offers claiming to be able to fast-track umrah trips should be ignored.

“I understand that there are people trying to make a quick buck through scams.

“They know that people have money in their Employees Provident Fund and would use their savings for the umrah,” he told reporters after presenting aid to the hardcore poor under the TH Prihatin programme at Menara TH yesterday.

Idris asked those who received the offers via text message to inform TH so that action can be taken.

Separately, Idris said the government has submitted seven names for the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate TH issues.

He said the names will be revealed after getting the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“The list was finalised after a Cabinet meeting yesterday. It will be presented to the King by the Prime Minister during his weekly audience with the Ruler on Friday,” he said, adding that the RCI will not affect daily operations.

On July 14, the government announced the setting up of the RCI under the Commission of Inquiry Act 1950 (Act 119).
