GEORGE TOWN: While the Macau scam is continuously in the news, police have warned the public against a new scam when buying durian online.
The new scam draws victims in by advertising cheap prices for durians on Facebook and then directed them to a link to download and app called D4 Durian for payment.
George Town police said that upon clicking the link, a page which resembled an "FPX Transaction" page would appear and once the victim entered his username and password the system would hang.
A message later from the bank would say money had been transferred.
"The transfer to the third party account will usually be an amount larger than the intended purchase."
The police told the public to be aware of the scam and not to download the app.
They also advised the public not to reveal their usernames and passwords to third parties.
