Prince Harry's enormous ￡5 million security and entourage bill is now being footed by the Duke of Sussex himself after Prince Charles stopped providing his son with financial support last summer. A royal finance expert said the Duke would have to "generate a lot of income" in order to cover the total costs of the bill.

       Speaking to ITV documentary 'Harry and William: What Went Wrong?', David McClure said: "One of the biggest things Harry had to give up when he stopped being a working royal was someone paying for his security.

       "Now it's been estimated that his security bill every year is about ￡3 million pounds.

       "In addition to that, he has his big entourage of people - he has lawyers, he has managers, he has PR people.

       "The total bill for that entourage has been estimated at about ￡5 million pounds a year. Now that means he has to generate a lot of income."

       Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their intention to step back from their positions as senior working royals in January 2020.

       The announcement came after months of rumours of a rift between the Sussex couple and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

       The couple had frequently spoken of their difficulties with media intrusion into their private lives since before tying the knot in 2018.

       In their Megxit statement, the couple said they had decided to split their time between North America and the United Kingdom and to "work to become financially independent".

       As part of their Megxit agreement, Prince Harry was stripped of his military titles and Meghan relinquished her royal patronages.

       They also agreed to repay the ￡2.4million renovation cost of Frogmore Cottage, which was funded by the taxpayer.

       Since relocating to California, the couple have signed several lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix, estimated to be worth ￡100million.

       Prince Harry is also starting a role at Silicon Valley company BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer.

       During the couple's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Prince Harry touched upon his financial situation and his strained relationship with the Royal Family.

       He said that his family had financially "cut me off" and without the money left to him by his mother Princess Diana, he and Meghan would have been unable to establish themselves in California.

       He also said that his father had "stopped taking my calls" and that he felt "really let down" by his father's handling of the situation.

       In a later interview for his Apple TV+ series, he once again criticised his father's parenting skills. Their relationship remains strained and it is unknown if they met during Prince Harry's visit to the UK last week.
