Brexit and pandemic-based driver shortages have had a debilitating effect on UK supply chains, many intensifying over the last few weeks. Britons have had to go without some foods, takeaways and blood tests while companies strive to replace the 100,000 personnel shortfall. Now, some have had to go without bin collection as the crisis strangles bin collection.

A recent report from the Local Government Authority (LGA) estimates 46 percent of councils have reported disruptions to rubbish collection.

Of the 137 they surveyed, the LGA found most councils - 54 percent - were "operating normally".

But 29 percent had experienced "minor disruption", followed by another 14 percent with "moderate disruption".

And three percent said they were "operating with severe disruption".

Altogether, councils experiencing some form of disruption made up 46 percent of those surveyed in July.

While the situation has improved since then, several councils have still experienced collection snags.

As of Friday, 18 councils have continued to report collection issues.

They are spread throughout England and Wales as the nations struggle to process HGV drivers awaiting DVLA accreditation.

       Affected councils include:

       Derby City Council

       Manchester City Council

       Milton Keynes Council

       South Gloucestershire Council

       South Holland District Council

The LGA findings show that, overall, most councils had experienced disruption in July.

Of the 177 they surveyed, only 43 percent were "operating normally".

A significant 57 percent had some form of disruption this summer.

Up to 42 percent of councils had "minor" disruption, followed by 14 and one percent with "moderate" and "severe" issues.

Of them all, the LGA found that Public health had the most profound difficulties.

A minority of councils reported public health services "operating normally" - only 49 percent.

Many - 29 percent - had reported experiencing "minor" disruption, and another 20 percent recorded "moderate" impacts.

Public health had the highest percentage of "severe" impacts, with six percent reporting as such.
