Riots across the UK - with scores of them in London - have marked a positive change in the unrest across the nation this week. Riots have turned into peaceful protests in places such as Walthamstow, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester and Derby.
Police have been present, and vigilant, with fears of clashes if far-Right demonstrators did turn up. One birdseye view, taken in Walthamstow, showed wall-to-wall demonstrators on the ground earlier this evening (August 7).
So far, despite a promise of chaos in 100 areas, things have so far remained mostly peaceful. However, tonight the Metropolitan Police has confirmed it has made eight arrests in Croydon after thugs threw fireworks at police.
The force said bottles were thrown at officers and objects "dragged down the road", in scenes of mayhem. But it has taken steps to distance this action from the protests, insisting the anti-social behaviour reported was not "linked".
