Meghan Markle targeted by online trolls creating bogus social accounts to 'vilify' Duchess

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been facing issues with online trolls after their popularity plummeted during their time in and out of the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued multiple statements asking the press for privacy as they continously dominated the headlines of UK tabloids. Meghan and Harry ended up stepping-down as working royals, in a bid to "carve out their own role," in the institution.

They later moved to LA with their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Inside Edition Digital’s TC Newman spoke to Christopher Bouzy, CEO of Bot Sentinel about his company's latest report.

The analysis dug deep into accounts spreading hate and misinformation about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

Mr Bouzy said: "They are set up specifically to defame her, to vilify her. Some of these accounts, you're talking 300-400 tweets per day specifically about her and Harry.

       "So, it's pretty bad.

"Who has time to do 300-400 tweets per day?

"The average person is not tweeting 300 times a day, the average person is not spending literally every day tweeting about a specific topic or person."

He continued: "It's either one person that's not getting a lot of sleep or multiple people using the same account. We found quite a few accounts like this.

"That's one of the signs we look for when we're looking for correlated activity when we're looking at people that are part of a smear campaign."

Ms Newman said "Bot Sentinel's investigation uncovered over 300 accounts made specifically to spread hate about the Duchess of Sussex."

"They isolated 55 accounts that create original anti-Meghan content, that is amplified by 30 secondary accounts, which is shared and retweeted by hundreds of others."

Mr Bouzy added: "One particular account we found that's tweeting about the Duchess of Sussex was pretty much tweeting 4/5/6 times per minute, which is insane."

Meghan and Harry have faced increased backlash since opening up about their time in the Royal Family.

In a tell-all exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the pair claimed that their time in the family lead to deteriorating mental health, with Meghan saying she was suicidal.

They also alleged racism, and accused a family member of inquiring "how dark" Archie's skin would be.

Neither the Duke nor the Duchess of Sussex has disclosed the name of the person that asked.
