KUALA LUMPUR: A bogus policeman was caught in the act, leading to a chase that saw gunshots being fired.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the suspect robbed a victim near the Sri Rakyat apartment in Bukit Jalil at about 6.30pm on Saturday.
“The suspect identified himself as a policeman and performed a check on the victim, a foreigner. He then took RM150 from the victim.
“A patrol team saw the act and a car chase ensued. Several vehicles in the area were hit by the fleeing suspect,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The chase led the police to Jalil Link, where members of the public successfully blocked the suspect at a traffic light.
“Despite instructions to exit his car, the suspect drove towards the police.
“Four gunshots were fired at the car’s tyres.
“However, the suspect managed to escape, and was last seen driving against traffic towards Shah Alam,” he said.
Based on information gathered, the suspect was arrested in Taman Sentosa, Klang, on Sunday.
A urine test turned up positive for methamphetamine.
The suspect also has a police record for criminal and drug-related offences.
