KOTA KINABALU: No matter what kind of trouble you are in, you can always depend on “Abang Bomba” to bail you out – even if you’re a furry.
Firemen were called into action to rescue a stray dog that fell into a retention pond in Sabah’s east coast Lahad Datu district yesterday.
Quick action: The fireman preparing to retrieve the dog that was hiding in one of the outlets at the bottom of the retention pond in Lahad Datu.
The animal had apparently stumbled into the 4.5m-deep pond at the Tamaco Plantation off Jalan Kimbell.
Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue chief Sumsoa Rashid said a team was immediately dispatched to the area after receiving a call at 7.30am.
On discovering that it was a dog trapped in the pond, he said one of his men then rappelled down to the pond and retrieved the animal hiding in one of the outlets at the bottom.
“The fire personnel member then tied a simple bowline on the dog before the other firemen on top pulled it up,” he said yesterday.
“As soon as they got the dog, they cleaned the debris and water off the animal before letting it go.”
In a video of the rescue shared by the Fire and Rescue Department, onlookers can be heard cheering them on.
