       Today, two of the most eagerly awaited films of the year are out in cinemas.

       Both Barbie and Oppenheimer have created such a stir with fans eagerly anticipating the release of both.

       Oppenheimer tells the story of the father of the atomic bomb, Robert J Oppenheimer and his famous Trinity Test.

       Just like Barbie, thousands are expected to flood cinemas today to see the latest release from director Christopher Nolan.

       In trailers for Oppenheimer, one character tells another that they gave humanity the power to destroy themselves.

       The rise of the atomic, then hydrogen, bomb during and after the war led to a global stalemate as the USA and Russia (then the Soviet Union) entered into a nuclear standoff and the Cold War.

       Experts say one of the reasons nuclear weapons acted to create a form of peace was because of a phenomenon known as Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) in which neither side would fire because they knew the other side would retaliate, destroying them both.
