Metro restored service on part of the Red Line in downtown Washington after smoke from the brakes of a rail car prompted an hour-long service suspension.
The transit agency suspended service about 3:30 p.m. between the Farragut North and NoMa-Gallaudet stations because of the incident at the Gallery Place station. D.C. fire officials said the station was evacuated.

Fire officials said smoke came from the brakes on one rail car, adding that there was no fire. Smoke had dissipated before 4 p.m., according to the D.C. fire department. The Gallery Place station reopened about 4:30 p.m.
Trains on Metro’s Yellow and Green lines bypassed the Gallery Place station as shuttle buses replaced rail service between the closed Red Line stations.
