PETALING JAYA: Police have crippled a house break-in gang here with the arrest of six suspects, including a man who was recently detained under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said they received a report from a foreign man on Feb 27 who said his house in Sri Damansara had been robbed at around 3.30am.
"The complainant claimed that two foreigners had knocked on his door and ordered him to open the door for them to perform checks.
"When they entered the house one of the suspects grabbed a knife from the kitchen and pointed at the complainant and his friend.
"They ordered the victims to hand over cash and mobile phones worth RM3,800," he told reporters on Friday (March 25).
He said police raided a house in Damansara at around 4.30am on March 3 and arrested two foreign men aged 30 and 41 and seized three mobile phones believed to have been stolen and a parang believed to be used in the robbery.
"After interrogating the suspects, we were led to a location in Petaling Jaya where we arrested another foreigner and three locals.
"We checked the four suspects and found various items believed to have been stolen in a car," he said, adding that they seized mobile phones and laptops, electrical appliances as well as tools used for house break-ins.
He added that one of the suspects has a record of five crimes, one with a Poca record and two others with records of other crimes including drugs.
He said police have solved one robbery, eight house break-in and four theft cases which occurred between January and March this year.
"The three foreign men have been remanded for 14 days while the three locals have been remanded for 11 days," he said.
