KUALA LUMPUR: The percentage of breakthrough deaths among those who contracted Covid-19 after being fully-vaccinated is less than 0.01% out of 14 million individuals, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

       "Yes, we are aware that there will be deaths among those who are fully vaccinated if they contract the coronavirus as the vaccines are not 100% foolproof.

       "But the rate proves the effectiveness of vaccines," the Health Minister said during his ministerial reply to the motion of thanks on the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Sept 23).

       Khairy said the information was derived from a recent study carried out by the National Institute of Health Malaysia on 14 million individuals who had been fully vaccinated.

       "The death rate among the fully vaccinated, irrespective of whether it was the Sinovac, Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine, was 0.01%," he said.

       He added that the study also found that the percentage of admission to intensive care units of those who contracted Covid-19 after being fully vaccinated was 0.07%.

       Khairy also noted the study found that cases of re-infection among the fully vaccinated were also low.

       The full findings of the study would be announced soon, he added.
