SEREMBAN: Two Immigration officers have pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to three counts of receiving bribes totalling RM13,300 from middlemen.

       Mohamad Izhmi Mohamad Noor, 35, and Muhammad Rushdi Zainal, 27, who worked at KLIA 2 in Sepang, entered the plea before Sessions judge Madihah Harullah.

       Mohamad Izhmi was charged with receiving a RM10,000 bribe from one Mohamad Jeffry Mohd Zain at a burger shop in Kg Jijan, Nilai, in October.

       He was accused of accepting the cash although he knew that Mohamad Jeffry had interest in his official work as a public servant.

       He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to two years and a fine or both.

       Judge Madihah then fined the accused RM15,000 in default 10 months jail.

       She also ordered that a Ducati Panigale V4 motorcycle belonging to the accused be forfeited.

       Muhammad Rushdi pleaded guilty to two charges of accepting a total of RM3,300 from one Mohd Shah Ezywan Abd Rahman, 34, to release foreigners who had violated Immigration laws without following the proper procedures.

       For the first charge, he allegedly accepted RM1,000 from the individual on Aug 12, 2019, and a further sum of RM2,300 on June 20 last year.

       Both offences were committed at a bank in Nilai.

       The accused was charged under Section 25(1) of the MACC Act 2009 punishable under Section 25(2) of the same legislation.

       Offenders can be fined up to RM100,000 and jailed for a term not exceeding 10 years or both upon conviction.

       Madihah then fined the accused RM6,000 in default 10 months' jail.

       She also ordered that a Honda Civic 2.0L I-VTEC, a Surface Pro 5 laptop and an iPhone X belonging to the accused be forfeited.
