KOTA KINABALU: Sabah daily Covid-19 rose sharply again to 4,892 cases on Thursday (Feb 24), with the city here seeing its numbers doubling after showing a decline over three days.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said there was an increase of 892 new cases compared to 3,971 cases recorded the day before.

He said Kota Kinabalu recorded 1,947 new cases, an increase of 1,212 cases.

However, he said this increase includes backlog cases.

"A total of 1,214 out of 1,947 cases in Kota Kinabalu City are backlogs infections that occurred six days or longer but will only be registered today," he said in his daily briefing.

Nine others districts recorded three-digit cases -Tuaran 425 cases, Penampang 415 cases, Papar 290 cases, Tawau 208 cases, Kota Belud 207 cases, Beaufort 194 cases, Sandakan 192 cases, Keningau 144 cases and Lahad Datu 100 cases.

He said 16 other districts recorded double digits with only one district -Kalabakan- recording single single-digit numbers.

"Although only 10 districts recorded an increase in cases, the number of new infections in Sabah soared due to the number of cases in Kota Kinabalu which amounted to almost 2,000," he added.

A total of 99.53% or 4,869 out of 4,892 patients were in Category 1 and 2 and there were five cases in Category 3, 13 cases in Category 4 and five cases in Category 5.

Meanwhile, 531 cases involved children under 11 years old who have not been vaccinated, including 241 who are not eligible for vaccination.
