PETALING JAYA: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) is mulling whether to sit through the five-day special Parliamentary sitting next week, as it believes it is nothing but a briefing session.

Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the party's MPs will initially attend the session which begins on July 26, but may leave if they feel that it is just a government policy briefing.

“We haven’t fully decided yet, because we want to see how the meeting is conducted,” he said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday (July 21).

Dr Mahathir said the actual Parliamentary session is on Sept 6 which starts with an opening address from the King before the session continues.

The former prime minister said Pejuang was informed that the sitting was just to explain government measures during the Emergency to the MPs.

He also maintains that the declaration of Emergency went against the law, as the motion was not brought before Parliament and the Dewan Negara.

“We have been under Emergency for a while now, and only now they want to legitimise it and have us accept the proclamation as if it was confirmed from the start,” he said.
