MELAKA: Hotels here have kept to their end of the deal and maintained reasonable prices for their Ramadan buffets, says a Melaka exco chairman.

Melaka unity, community relationship, human resource and consumer’s affair committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem said not a single hotel was found to have raised the price of its buffets despite them going through a difficult time dues to the recent series of movement control orders and travel restrictions.

"We found that the hotels had fixed a fair price for their buffets as well as have not misused the halal logo during checks made by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs enforcement officers," he said after leading a price check operation at a hypermarket in Ayer Keroh here on Saturday night (April 23).

On April 2, hoteliers told The Star that there would be no increase in buffet prices despite the increase of raw materials.

Meanwhile, Ngwe said 2,507 businesses, which included supermarkets and grocery shops, were checked between April 3 to April 22 with RM18,753 worth of compounds being issued for various offences.

However, no offences were found to have been committed by traders and hawkers at Ramadan bazaars.
