JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor now stands at 4,449 people from 1,195 families who are currently placed at 66 temporary relief shelters (PPS) across the state.

       State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that as of 8am on Thursday (Jan 6), no PPS have been closed and six districts remain affected by the flood.

       "The affected districts are Segamat, Tangkak, Mersing, Muar, Batu Pahat, and Kluang.

       "The majority of the victims are from Segamat with 2,508 people, followed by Tangak (801), Muar (495) and Mersing (464)," he said in a statement here.

       He also shared that in Segamat, the most affected area is Kampung Simpang Loi, with 423 victims from 125 families placed at SK Tambang PPS.

       "There are also five locations that are recording dangerous river level readings, namely Sungai Muar near Kampung Awat, Buloh Kasap, Kampung Olak Sepam, and Panchor, aside from Sungai Liang Batu, Muar.

       "Nine roads in Segamat and one road in Muar are still closed to all vehicles," he added.

       The closed roads are Jalan Kuala Paya, Jalan Puting, Jalan Tumang, Jalan Serakek, Jalan Tunku Tiga, Jalan Pogoh, Jalan Balai Polis Buluh Kasap, Jalan Senai - Gemas, Jalan Felda Medou in Segamat, and Jalan Muar- Labis in Muar.
