KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputra Development Action 2030 (TPB2030) outlines six main targets which are expected to be achieved by 2030 through seven main economic growth activities, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

       He said TPB2030 was a government initiative to provide equitable opportunities in economic and socioeconomic fields to strengthen the bumiputra agenda under the patronage of the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU).

       The six targets are: the contribution of RM438bil in gross operating surplus from bumiputra enterprises to the gross domestic product; average wages at RM5,169.12; household income at RM18,402.68; return on financial assets rate per capita at a value of RM4,495.65; a total of 3,248,920 skilled workers; and home ownership of 4,758,469.

       The targets will be achieved through seven key economic growth activities comprising: agriculture and commodities; digital economy; halal products and food; Islamic finance 2.0; transport and sustainable mobility; manufacturing; and tourism.

       "Although bumiputras are the majority race in this country, accounting for 20.9 million or 69.7% (of the population), their socioeconomic status is still at a level which needs improvement, especially the wealth gap, income disparity and low asset ownership.

       "Until today, the target of having 30% bumiputra equity has never been achieved although the New Economic Policy (NEP) had been established previously to tackle the problem of economic imbalance among the various races in the country,” he said when launching TPB2030 here on Monday (Dec 6).

       He said TPB2030 outlined a clear strategy for development programmes and initiatives which are streamlined with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and supported by the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) within the context of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family). – Bernama
