GEORGE TOWN: Taxi and e-hailing car drivers are looking forward to earning more following the government’s decision to allow them to operate at full capacity now.
Airport taxi driver Ahmad Iswadi Arshad, 43, said the decision would help drivers like him to earn their daily income.
He, however, said it is too early to assess the situation as there are concerns that the pandemic could still hurt the economy if there is a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases.
He said to prevent infections, drivers and passengers must strictly follow the standard operating procedure at all times.
E-hailing driver Simon Lee, 35, said the announcement came at the right time as drivers like him had been surviving with fewer passengers for several months due to the pandemic.
Another e-hailer Abdul Ridzwan Abu Haniffa, 27, said that although he welcomes the decision, he would not let his guard down against the virus.
“Full capacity means more passengers for us, which is in a way good for us, but we must also be careful not to get infected. I won’t put my family’s health at risk,” he added.
