JOHOR BARU: MCA's Johor Jaya state seat candidate Chan San San has challenged her DAP opponent to a debate in Bahasa Malaysia.
Chan called out Liow Chai Tung for a debate following state DAP chief Liew Chin Tong’s claim on Tuesday (March 8) that MCA candidates cannot communicate in the national language - Bahasa Malaysia - without a script.
“All MCA candidates were picked after a stringent process and are eligible contestants, which Liew does not know about yet he made such a claim.
“His actions are similar to that of bad cyber troopers and has affected his credibility as his party’s state chief,” Chan said.
As such, she wanted to challenge Liow, the incumbent Johor Jaya assemblyman who is defending the seat, to a debate to show the DAP candidate’s fluency in Bahasa Malaysia to the people.
Chan said a leader fluent in Bahasa Malaysia would be able to bring the voters’ voice to the state assembly and provide better services for constituents.
“Since Liew said DAP candidates are more fluent in Bahasa Malaysia, there should be no excuses for Liow to reject the challenge.
“Otherwise it will prove that Liew is just blowing hot air,” she said, adding that the debate can take place on March 10 at the Pasir Gudang MCA division office here.
The topic would be decided through coordination between both parties, she added.
