KOTA KINABALU: A businessman lost a chunk of his day’s earnings when the money collected from 10 of his shops were stolen in broad daylight on Jan 10 here.
The 40-year-old had kept the money amounting to RM230,744 inside his car boot and had gone to another one of his shops to collect money at around 11.45am.
When he returned, he saw that the windows to his car were shattered and the money-filled bags missing.
The victim would normally collect the earnings daily, count them and put the money into the company bank account.
Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah said the man asked for help from policemen who were patrolling the area at that time.
“Two patrol policemen chased after the suspects based on a description from a witness and managed to stop a vehicle with the suspects inside,” he said.
He said the passenger in the car managed to get out of the vehicle and escaped while the 56-year-old driver was nabbed.
“A portion of the money was recovered while another bag believed to be filled with RM45,000 remains missing,” ACP Zaidi said.
It is believed that the missing money is with the man who managed to escape.
Police are searching for one, Fredius George, 33, to facilitate investigations into the case.
“Anyone who knows this person is urged to come forward and assist investigations,” ACP Zaidi said.
