“We apologize” for its nature, Police Chief Don Hayes and City Manager James Parajon said in the joint statement. It called the existence of the materials “an isolated incident.”
No description was given of what was found. It was not clear when the materials were discovered or by whom. It also was unclear whether they were found while the cruiser was in use by the police.
No officers who may have used the cruiser were identified. No information was available on whether the materials were seen by members of the public.
Police have started to investigate and their response will follow personnel procedures, the statement said.
The joint statement said officials “honor the public trust by serving with integrity, civility, impartiality, and by holding ourselves accountable when we do not.”
