PETALING JAYA: Fourteen new Covid-19 clusters were detected on Saturday (June 26), bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 868.
Workplace outbreaks continue to dominate the types of clusters, making up nine of the 14 new clusters.
Nevertheless, the latest number of new clusters is a drop from 21 reported on Friday (June 25).
A total of 81 deaths from the coronavirus were reported over the past 24 hours.
“Of the total, 78 were Malaysians while the remaining three were foreigners.
“The youngest among the deceased was a 26-year-old male foreigner with obesity issues,” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement on Saturday.
The oldest patient who died was a 97-year-old Malaysian woman in Terengganu.
Selangor had the bulk of the deaths, recording 30 fatalities, followed by 14 from Kuala Lumpur, 12 from Johor, nine from Negri Sembilan and five from Sarawak.
“Pahang and Melaka each recorded three deaths, while two fatalities were from Labuan.
“Penang, Kedah and Terengganu each had one death,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
Today marks the fourth day in a row that the number of deaths is over 80.
The number of new cases on Saturday of 5,803 also surpassed the 5,193 recoveries recorded on Saturday.
