IPOH: Perak will reach its target of having 90% of its adult population fully vaccinated soon, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad.

       The Perak Mentri Besar said currently 94% of adults in the state have received their first dose of the vaccination.

       “We are hoping to reach the 90% rate the soonest by next week or by the end of the month,” he told reporters after officiating the state-level National Sports Day celebration at Stadium Perak on Saturday (Oct 9).

       Separately, Saarani also suggested that the phases in the National Recovery Plan (NRP) should be scrapped once the interstate travel ban is lifted.

       “Once we have reached the 90% fully vaccinated adult population in the country, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will announce the interstate travel.

       “Therefore, the phases are no longer relevant once interstate travelling is allowed again,” he said.

       Perak is still under Phase Two of the NRP.

       On a separate matter, he said that the state would consider adding cycling lanes in the state.

       “As the state government, it is our responsibility to add more sports facilities for the public to use. It can be all types of sports, from jogging, badminton, field hockey and cycling.

       “These days, I noticed that there are cyclists using the main roads, which concern us. Therefore we will take a look at our financial budgets to perhaps add more cycling lanes in the state,” he said.
