Crunchy nut cornflakes have been crowned Britain’s best-loved breakfast cereal according to a new poll.
Created by Kelloggs employees at the Trafford Park factory in Greater Manchester more than 40 years ago, a survey of 2000 cereal eaters found 35 per cent said it was their all-time favourite.
The more exciting variation on regular cornflakes was launched in 1980 with sales three times more than projected in the first three months.
However 28 per cent of those polled said they preferred traditional cornflakes, invented in the late 1800s by William Kellogg to provide a low-calorie breakfast option for people in a sanatorium.
Launched in the UK in 1922, approximately 66 million boxes are produced in this country each year.
In third place was Rice Krispies with 18 per cent of adults saying it was their favourite despite being marketed to children.
Shreddies came in fourth (16 per cent) and Cheerios were fifth (15 percent).
Ready Brek (14 percent) remains popular with older Brits with a third saying it’s because it takes them back to their childhood.
Special K Red Berries,Cookie Crisp, Shredded Wheat and Alpen make up the top ten according to research, conducted by Perspectus Global.
