TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan is expected to stage the Olympics without spectators at venues in Tokyo due to a recent surge in coronavirus infections, a senior government official said Wednesday.
The scenario is most likely as the Japanese government has decided to declare another COVID-19 state emergency for Tokyo.
The Olympics are due to begin on July 23. Some venues of the games are located outside Tokyo.
