KARACHI: A police officer and three teenagers were among eight persons who were shot at and wounded in celebratory firing on Sunday night soon after Pakistan’s victory against India in T20 World Cup in the UAE, officials said on Monday.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Ghani was shot at and injured in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. Area SHO Sabir Khan said that as the cricket match ended, certain people resorted to firing in jubilation in Jamali Colony, Block-2 of Gulshan. As a result, a bullet hit the SI, who was in the uniform and performing his duty there. He had gone there to prevent the people from firing, the police said.
He was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
A 35-year-old man, Ameerullah, was shot at and injured by a stray bullet near Power House, Shafiq Mor. Samanabad SHO Waqar Kaiser said he was on his way from Sohrab Goth to Nagan Chowrangi on a motorbike when the bullet fired during celebratory firing hit him in the thigh. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and later discharged after the first aid.
A 33- year-old man, Adeel Ahmed, was injured by a stray bullet near Power House. Sir Syed SHO Chaudhry Zahid said he was riding a motorbike when the bullet hit him in the foot. He was shifted to the ASH.
Nazimabad police said Shanullah Khan, 45, was injured by a stray bullet at Hashmi Masala in Gol Market. He was taken to the ASH.
Orangi Town police said 10-year-old Abdul Rahman was shot at and wounded at his home in Data Nagar when a bullet fired from an undisclosed location hit him. The boy was taken to the ASH.
In another incident in Orangi Town’s Sector-4, 16-year-old Aftab Roshan was injured by a stray bullet at his home, according to Mominabad police. He was taken to the ASH.
Bilal Colony police said Mohammad Rashid, 34, was shot at and hurt in celebratory firing near 4-K Chowrangi. He was taken to the ASH.
Sachal police said 13-year-old Ali Raheem was injured by a stray bullet near Sachal Goth. The wounded teenager was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
