KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah's strength at the grassroots level remains intact a day after losing Lahad Datu MP and Segama assemblyman Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi, says party information chief Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah

He said that the party members were disappointed with Mohammadin, who had left the party to become an independent friendly to the state government.

"I know many of the party leaders and member are very disappointed with his act of betrayal to the party struggle," Awang Ahmad said on Sunday (Oct 31).

He said the Opposition party remains focused on its struggles and is still strong at the grassroots level despite losing three assemblymen who left to support the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government.

The two-year-old Warisan-led state government was toppled by the 10 party GRS coalition in last year's Sept 26 snap state election.

"After a year of the GRS government ruling they have clearly failed to fulfil their election promises and people are generally unhappy with their performance," Awang Ahmad said.

He urged party members to continue engaging and working with the people to ensure the party strengthen itself for the 15th general election expected early next year.

Mohammadin announced on Saturday (Oct 30) that he as Segama assemblyman was leaving to become an independent friendly to GRS at the state level but would remain an independent in the Opposition block.

His exit from Warisan did not come as a surprise to the party as political speculation of him quitting the party has been circulating since last year.

Warisan, led by former chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, now holds 19 seats in the 78-member assembly while fellow Opposition Pakatan Harapan has nine seats.

GRS coalition currently holds 46 seats - (Umno- 16 seats, Bersatu -15, Parti Bersatu Sabah- 7, Sabah STAR-6, Sabah Progressive Party -1 and PAS -1) with four independents supporting the government.
