PETALING JAYA: Existing regulations on school buses' colours and markings remained the same, as no changes were introduced by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said this on Facebook in response to Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng who previously claimed that JPJ had imposed new paint rules for school buses.

“The ‘rules’ that were stated by Lim Guan Eng have never been issued to any school bus operators in the country.

“The rules regarding the colour and marking aspects that are in force and applicable to all school buses remain the same and no changes have been made by JPJ, in accordance with the rules under the School Bus Rules (Colours and Marks) 1987,” Dr Wee said on Monday (Sept 27).

In the same post, Dr Wee also shared a statement by the department and Puspakom denying the alleged new rules that require school buses to paint the bumpers in blue for inspection purposes.

“The existing rules are in line with the regulations, where all school buses in operation must be painted in amber while the marking of ‘school bus’ on the vehicle must be painted in black,” it said.

JPJ added that to alleviate the burden of school bus operators during the trying times, the department has implemented several initiatives.

This includes exemption of summonses for failure to attend Puspakom inspection of commercial vehicles from June 1 until Sept 30.

The public is also advised to get verified news and information from the official platforms.
