MELAKA: Perikatan Nasional will only announce its chief minister candidate at a suitable time, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The coalition chairman said it was more important for its candidates to be accepted by the people of Melaka.

Both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan announced their election manifesto and chief minister candidates last week.

Asked if any legal action will be taken should any of its candidates switch parties after the state polls, Muhyiddin said that Perikatan had no plans to make them sign any statutory declarations.

"We are confident that our candidates, who have been chosen by their respective parties, are loyal.

"I am confident that the party leadership knows who they are and their undivided loyalty," said Muhyiddin during a press conference after launching the Perikatan manifesto on Sunday (Nov 14).

The election is being held following the dissolution of the state assembly after four assemblymen withdrew their support for former chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

Melaka voters will choose a new state government on Nov 20.
