The farmers in Wales have expressed their anger towards the company after comments made by the company’s chief executive. It comes the UK could face a shortage of one of the nation’s favourite chocolate tubs at Christmas – Quality Street - due to labour shortages.

Nestlé has reported potential supply chain problems as the festive period approaches in the next few months.

The company has also launched a non-dairy, plant-based alternative to the traditional milk and chocolate treats which they produce.

Some of these chocolate treats include Aero and KitKat – stalwarts of the nation’s chocolates over the years.

Farmers have reacted furiously to comments from the Nestlé chief executive, with one saying he will boycott the popular chocolates.

Chief executive Mark Schneider told the BBC that “less meat and dairy is good for the planet".

Mr Schneider added: “It’s also good for diet and health, and it is also a big commercial opportunity."

Conwy hill farmer Gareth Wyn Jones who has gained a large following on social media was one of the farmers how expressed his anger.

Mr Wyn Jones used his social media following to show his anger towards the comments made by Mr Schneider.

He said: “I’ll not be buying any Quality Streets this Christmas.”

       “Or any time.”

After Mr Wyn Jones posted about Quality Street ahead of Christmas, a wider boycott of the product has since been called by farmers across the industry, North Wales Online reports.

The anger felt by farmers is mainly centred about the selling of plastic-wrapped sugary products made from ingredients involved in deforestation, which farmers believe contradict their recent decision for plant-based foods.

Along with Nestlé, other chocolate companies have joined them in trying to protect the environment.

Mondelez, the owner of Cadbury, introduced a brand-new vegan chocolate product.

The Cadbury Plant Bar has been wrapped in plant-based packaging in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly.

The new plant bar is expected to hit the shelves in the UK and Ireland next month.

Express.co.uk have contacted Nestlé for comment.
