JOHOR BARU: Youths in Johor should not be too choosy when job-seeking, says Mohd Hairi Mad Shah
The Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee chairman said that the feedback given by business owners is that local youths are quite picky about the pay and location of the jobs offered.
He said that local youth should not be too choosy about the pay and industries where the jobs are offered, especially during the present situation.
“Rather than the jobs going to foreigners, I have advised business owners to prioritise hiring local talent because youths have been impacted by the loss of jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Mohd Hairi.
“There are actually many job opportunities in Johor, just don’t be too choosy or demanding,” he added after attending the Mini Johor Arts Fiesta held at the Paragon Market Place here on Sunday (June 5).
There was reportedly a lack of local workers for several main economic sectors in Johor such as service, commodities and manufacturing.
On May 24, the state government also announced that it would set up a special task force to tackle employment issues involving locals as well as the brain drain to Singapore.
This was because many Malaysians received offers, with an attractive currency exchange rate, to work across the border when Malaysia reopened its borders on April 1.
