SEREMBAN: Some 305kg of methamphetamine worth about RM11mil disguised as chopped fibreglass were seized by the Customs Department after it intercepted a container at the Tanjung Pelepas Port in Johor.
Customs director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said the container had arrived at the port from West Port in Klang on Oct 25 but did not say where it was headed to.
He said the illicit drugs were seized in an operation on Nov 17.
“A Customs team carried out checks on the container at the Inspection Bay at Wisma Kastam around 9.35am on the said day and found 278 white sacks in it.
“Inside the sacks, we found the drugs packed in 300 plastic bags,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Latif said his officers detained two suspects during the operation.
He said a syndicate, which had attempted to smuggle out the drugs, had tried to hoodwink the authorities by declaring the consignment as “chopped e-glass fibreglass”.
The syndicate used a fake company name to export the consignment and the name of the sender was also fake.
