South Wales Police officers responded to an emergency call to the city centre at 4:30pm on Friday, November 5. They said two people have been taken to hospital and one person is in custody, but have not confirmed the details of assault which eyewitnesses claim was a stabbing.

Justyn Knight, an inspector with South Wales Police, said: "I can confirm there has been an assault in the city centre this evening [Friday, November 5].

       "It happened at around 4.30pm.

"Two people have been taken to hospital, one person is in custody.

"A cordon is in place while the investigation takes place."

Wales Online quoted eyewitnesses who said the assault took place on St Mary's Street / Queen Street in Cardiff.

The outlet’s senior reporter Conor Gogarty said at 6:51pm most officers are located near the Owain Glyndwr Pub on St John Street and the church nearby.

He said: “St Mary's Street is now clear, ambulances have now gone.

"Police are walking up and down near The Botanist (bar on Church Street).

"The cordon is still in place, it's quite a big cordon, it goes from the church to Owain Glyndwr pub.

"[Apart from the cordon], you wouldn't know anything had happened."
