       A 19-YEAR-OLD girl drowned after saving the life of another teenager who fell into a lake in Tamil Nadu, India, Malaysia Nanban reported.

       Pothumponnu Murugan, a nursing student from Trichi city, was swimming in the lake with friends when she noticed another girl who was playing nearby.

       The 13-year-old girl was struggling to stay afloat.

       The courageous Pothumponnu swam towards the girl and managed to pull her out of harm’s way.

       But she could not save herself and went under.

       Passers-by who heard her friends calling for help rushed over.

       They pulled Pothumponnu out and sent her to hospital but she could not be revived.

       Her tragic death in saving the 13-year-old girl has devastated the town.
