LANGKAWI: A video clip showing a 16-year-old secondary school student here being assaulted by his classmate has gone viral on social media.
Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari said the video that was detected on Thursday (April 28), showed the victim being kicked and punched by several of his classmates in a classroom.
"Police have received the police report that was lodged by the victim early Thursday morning," he said in a statement.
ACP Shariman said further checks found that the incident happened on Wednesday (April 27) at about 9am in one of the classrooms at the school.
He said the cause of the incident was caused by a misunderstanding between the students.
He said the victim has been referred to hospital once the police received the report.
ACP Shariman said suspects have been identified and further investigations are ongoing.
In the 25-second video clip, the victim can be seen arguing with one of the students before he was attacked by others, causing him to fall.
The attackers then rained punches and kicks on the victim as he lay on the ground.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
