LAKKI MARWAT: The police with the help of Counter-Terrorism Department commandos destroyed the hideouts of terrorists during a clean-up operation in Karak district on Sunday.

A police official said that the operation was conducted in the mountainous terrain of Palosi Banda on information about the presence of terrorists there. “There were credible reports that a key militant commander, Kalimullah and his associates were present in their safe haven established in the mountains,” he claimed.

He said that Kalimullah and his group were involved in bank robberies and other subversive acts and that the law enforcers were making efforts to arrest him.

“The militants fled their hideouts before police reached there to arrest them,” the official said, adding that the policemen and CTD commandos equipped with advanced weapons and modern gadgets destroyed their hideouts by setting them on fire.

He reiterated that the police would continue such operations to eliminate militants and anti-peace elements and restore lasting peace in the district.

In Lakki Marwat, the police and the security forces carried out joint snap-checking as part of a plan to ensure safety on the roads and maintain peace in the district ahead of Eidul Fitr.

A police official said district police officer Mohammad Jawad Ishaq had issued special instructions to tighten checking and increase patrolling on rural and urban roads ahead of Eidul Fitr. “The move is aimed to curb movement of miscreants and provide the citizens with protection,” he maintained.

He said the law enforcers conducted checking of suspected vehicles and individuals with the help of VVS (vehicle verification system) and CRVS (criminal record verification system) on rural and urban roads.

The police official said that the use of modern technology during the snap-checking would help track down wanted people and anti-social elements.
