Ed Miliband has unleashed chaos (Image: PA)
Britain’s Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, has become the most mistrusted man on energy in the UK. No ifs. No buts. A recent YouGov poll reveals a staggering 62% of Brits wouldn’t trust him with their energy bill advice, a figure that plunges to an eye-watering -86% among Reform Party voters and still languishes at a miserable -16% even among Labour loyalists. And the numbers tell the real story — his Net Zero obsession is not just reckless, it’s costing every household dearly.
According to Tory analysis, Miliband’s green crusade will add about £389 per household by 2030, collectively slapping a colossal £22.8 billion on already squeezed families. And that figure is just the tip of the iceberg. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) warns the full Net Zero price tag to Britain could soar to a nightmare £803 billion by 2050 — a fiscal black hole threatening to suck in the public purse for decades.

But that’s not all. The energy chaos unleashed by Miliband’s policies means Britain is literally paying wind farms to stop producing power — £700 million in 2025 alone — because the creaking National Grid can’t handle the surges of windy days.
Yes, you read that right: we’re flushing hundreds of millions down the drain so turbines can switch off when it’s too windy. Subsidies, balancing costs, hidden levies — it’s all shoved onto your monthly energy bill while Miliband ludicrously blames fossil fuels as 'the real culprit'. Absolute nonsense.

Then there’s the infamously ridiculous Joint Letter announcing the UK National Methane Action Plan. This bureaucratic masterpiece...not - is all puff and no substance — a pompous green virtue signal wrapped in buzzwords and a bureaucrat’s fantasy.
When 62% of Britons wouldn’t trust Miliband to advise on an energy bill, producing yet another climate bureaucrat manifesto shows just how detached this so-called “Energy Secretary” has become. Millions of Britons are struggling to pay bills and freezing in the colder months while Miliband wastes ink on incomprehensible methane policies.
If that wasn’t laughable enough, Miliband has also installed the Net Zero Council, a self-appointed green elite helmed by him, marching forward despite overwhelming public opposition.
This council acts like it’s running the show in a vacuum, pushing costly policies that hike bills, kill jobs in traditional energy sectors, and ignore cries from voters demanding affordable, reliable power. It’s a bureaucratic circus — out of touch, out of time, and out of sympathy with everyday Brits.
Miliband’s green fanatics in the council are pushing ahead with mandates so damaging that office colleagues are at odds over their severity.
For instance, while Miliband wishes to ban all new oil and gas boilers within a decade, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has lukewarm support for oil and gas jobs in Scotland — a glaring contradiction exposing the chaos within Labour’s green agenda.
Renowned Oxford energy expert Professor Dieter Helm slammed the massive leap in green levies baked into bills, noting they now account for roughly 25% of consumer energy costs — a staggering drain on the economy and a death knell for UK’s global competitiveness.
Instead of bringing energy bills down as promised, Miliband’s renewables obsession piles on hidden subsidies and “balancing costs” that inflate household expenses.
The Energy and Utilities sector agrees. Kathryn Porter’s 2025 report reveals that green levies have ballooned from £5 billion in 2015 to a projected £20 billion by decade’s end, with renewable subsidies like Contracts for Difference alone adding billions yearly. British Gas CEO Chris O'Shea bluntly warned that renewable energy won’t lower electricity prices anytime soon — contradicting Miliband’s cheerleading predictions.
Even overseas voices have taken notice. US President Donald Trump branded UK wind farms as the “most expensive con job” during a fiery visit to Scotland, accusing them of wrecking landscapes and hiking energy bills. If the Americans see through Miliband’s green smoke and mirrors, and so can everyday hardworking Britons. And that's why they'll be voting for Reform UK!
The Office for Budget Responsibility also sounds a dire alarm: The fiscal cost of Net Zero will weigh heavily on public finances with £30 billion spent annually until 2051 on updating grid infrastructure and lost fuel tax revenues as electric vehicles replace petrol cars.
Combined with climate change damage risks, this double crisis forecasts debt rising by 74% of GDP by the 2070s if temperatures rise unchecked.
Meanwhile, desperate families face the cold reality of soaring prices and fuel poverty. The government’s empty promise to cut bills by £300 fizzles against these relentless headline-grabbing costs. As bills climb to some of the highest in the world, public outrage grows louder.
Miliband’s response? More Net Zero bureaucracies, more grandiose plans, more green bureaucratic doublespeak that ignores the millions of Britons suffering under his expensive eco-wet dream.

Reform’s Deputy Leader Richard Tice sums it up perfectly: “Nobody trusts Red Ed. His lunatic obsession with Net Zero is boiling Britain’s energy bills. We’ll scrap his costly commitments, reopen oil drilling, support new nuclear, and create real jobs.”
Britain’s energy future cannot afford another day of Ed Miliband’s Net Zero fairy tales. The methane plan is a joke, the Net Zero Council a farce, and the rising bills a scandal. It’s time to put the British people ahead of green ideology, slash hidden levies, and finally deliver affordable, reliable energy.
Because right now, Ed Miliband is the worst Energy Secretary in living memory—burning through public trust and taxpayer money alike, heading Brtiain on a road to ruin.
