PETALING JAYA: A quick survey on the ground showed that most people are complying with the requirement to be fully vaccinated before patronising sectors that are now allowed to reopen.

Coffeeshop owner Melvyn Ramayah said a majority of his customers would display proof of their vaccination status when dining in.

“Most of them have been cooperative, and present their digital vaccination certificates even before being requested.

“There were also several elderly persons who presented their physical vaccination cards as proof as they do not have access to the (MySejahtera) app.

“Thankfully, we haven’t had any unwanted incidents of people forcing their way in,” he said.

Barber Robert Saton, 33, said the barbershop he works at checks each customer’s digital vaccination certificates carefully before allowing them in.

“We check their digital vaccination certs carefully to ensure they have been fully vaccinated, as per the definition announced by the government.

“We’ve had individuals who have yet to be fully inoculated show up for haircuts, but we turn them away. Despite this, most have been understanding of our procedures when obtaining our services,’’ he said.

He said there were also stringent checks by the authorities to ensure surrounding businesses complied with SOPs.

Analyst Cheah Tuck Yan, 25, confirmed that he encountered detailed checks on his vaccination status when dining in and getting a haircut recently.

“I went as soon as the relaxation was announced and noticed it was stricter than before.

“The staff thoroughly checked whether I was fully vaccinated and made sure I was listed as ‘low-risk’ before allowing me into the premises,” he said.

“However, there have been instances where it felt as if operators only took a glance without much attention to detail,” he added.

Zarol Nizam Alfiyan, 25, said his current experience dining in was smooth, although there were some additional steps during the check-in process.

“I was requested to show proof of my vaccination status. This was not much of a hassle but the process was not as thorough as I expected,” he added.
