       PARTS of the country could be left with up to 20 inches of snow as temperatures are expected to drop below zero.

       Forecasters predict freezing temperatures as there are weather warnings in place for gale force winds of up to 80mph.

       According to the Met Office, "prolonged periods" of snowfall are possible at higher elevations in parts of Scotland and northern England and Wales at the end of the week.

       There are no snow warnings today, November 24, 2021.

       The forecast for the next few days from the Met Office is:

       November 24

       Although parts of the south are cloudy it is expected to remain dry after the fog clears.

       However, there will be some sunny breaks too.

       The rain from the northwest is set to move south followed by windier, colder weather with sunshine and blustery showers.

       Tonight

       The weakening rainband will continue southeastward while most parts will clear later.

       It will be windy and cold in the north.

       Meanwhile, inland areas will remain clear but there will be showers around coasts, and wintry on Scottish hills.

       November 25

       For most parts of the country, it will be a cold windy day.

       It is expected to be sunny in some areas.

       However, the north is likely to see showers.

       Outlook for November 26- 28

       The rain moving south on Friday will be followed by wintry weather which will continue on Saturday.

       The mercury could dip as low as freezing in parts of London and the South East overnight, while remaining around 6C (42.8F) during the day on Saturday.

       There are yellow weather warnings in place for gale force winds from midday Friday for Scotland and parts of Northern England.

       It will be drier on Sunday.

       Colder conditions are expected in the period, with a risk of wintry showers, mainly in the north. Temperatures are likely to be close to or just below average.

       Under high pressure, frost and fog are likely overnight, with any fog slow to clear during the morning, according to the Met Office long-range forecast.

       December

       Forecasters predict December will see fog and frost early in the mornings.

       The north will see more changeable weather.

       January

       January is typically the coldest month of the year in the UK.

       Most parts of the UK will see rain while London and parts of the south might see snow, according to forecasters.

       Temperatures are expected to reach between 2C and 7C.
