KOTA BARU: Traffic policeman Constable Muhammad Zulhairie Nayan, who helped to ferry an elderly woman from Jalan Merbau to the Muhammadi Mosque, here has been commended by senior Kelantan police officials.

       The 28-year-old said he saw the woman was trying to cross the street and found out she was heading to the mosque located about a kilometre away.

       "I stopped to help her as I saw she was elderly and alone," he told reporters after receiving a certificate of appreciation at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters' monthly gathering on Monday (Jan 22).

       His act of kindness was captured in a 27-second video that went viral on Facebook on Jan 17, with many netizens showering praise on him.

       Muhammad Zulhairie, who works in the Kota Baru district police headquarters traffic enforcement and investigations division said he was on patrol at the time.

       "It never crosses my mind that my act would go viral as I see it as a normal for police to help the public," he said.

       Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun that Muhammad Zulhairie deserved praise for providing assistance.
