A masked man armed with a gun held up the Fifth-Third Bank on Showplace Drive in Naperville shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, the FBI said.
The suspect fled the scene on foot shortly after the robbery, prompting several Indian Prairie District 204 schools to be secured by Naperville police until they could ensure there was no threat.
The bank at 2644 Showplace Drive is just off Route 59, not far from 95th Street on the city’s south side.
An FBI description says the suspect is a black man standing about 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 and weighing 170 to 175 pounds. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey pants with black stripes on the side, light-colored shoes, a dark-colored face covering and dark gloves.
Classes continued as scheduled but eight school buildings were secured as a precaution: Neuqua Valley’s Birkett Freshman Center, Scullen, Gregory, Clow, White Eagle, Kendall and Fry, school district officials said.
