KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,000 Malaysian Family Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) will be set up throughout the country by the end of next year, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Apart from this, the existing 600 to 800 PEDi throughout the country will be upgraded.
PEDi, rebranded from existing community Internet centres, is expected to be launched this month in Bera, Pahang, reported Bernama.
“We will build new ones throughout the country in areas which do not have the facility yet, but the most important thing is content,” he said on RTM’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia @Ketereh, Kelantan programme.
He also launched #SayaDigital, which will feature experts in e-commerce yesterday.
“This will allow kampung folk, single mothers, petty traders, hawkers and youths an early introduction to the use of broadband facilities to increase their income,” he said, adding that previously, the broadband network was only used for communication.
He hoped it would be able to transform lives, including increasing people’s income through online marketing.
