PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 23 new Covid-19 clusters on Tuesday (July 13), bringing the number of active ones to 870.
Thirteen of the new clusters are outbreaks found at workplaces such as industrial areas and construction sites.
One of them is the Industri Bukit Minyak 11 cluster in Penang, which has 34 confirmed cases to date.
The infection cluster is found among workers of a plastic factory at the Bukit Minyak Industrial Area in Bukit Mertajam, who had to undergo a targeted screening exercise.
Another workplace-linked outbreak is the Gajah Mati Bukit Besi cluster in Terengganu which involves workers of a plantation.
The index case is a 34-year-old man who had travelled from Penang to Terengganu.
From 452 people under the cluster who were screened, 21 tested positive for Covid-19.
Another 10 new Covid-19 clusters have been categorised as community outbreaks.
One of them is the Kampung Baru Air Panas cluster in Kuala Lumpur, which has 129 confirmed cases.
The cluster was identified from a targeted screening exercise conducted at the village, where close to 500 individuals were tested.
The Jalan Biru cluster in Kulai, Johor is found to be linked to a funeral event on June 27.
The index case is a 55-year-old woman who started displaying symptoms on July 5, before testing positive for Covid-19 on July 9.
Out of 82 people who were tested there, 25 have been confirmed positive.
