KUALA LANGAT: First day of school operations and adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at a school here ran smoothly, says Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
The Deputy Education Minister said teachers at SJKC Bukit Fraser in Bandar Saujana Putra had done a good job in assisting the pupils on their first day of the 2022/2023 school year.
“This is a new school and although it has a capacity to fill 240 pupils, about 198 registered their attendance today,” he said at a press conference Monday (March 21) after visiting SJKC Bukit Fraser.
Dr Mah also said he monitored the pupils' school bags over concerns on the weight of their bags.
He said the ministry will be providing lockers in primary schools that operate on dual sessions.
“The ministry has taken and is taking steps to alleviate this problem.
“There are seven initiatives in total which I will explain further in Parliament,” he said.
Previously, Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the lockers will be provided in two phases starting this year to address the heavy school bags issue.
The first phase will involve Years One, Two and Three and the second phase will involve Years Four, Five and Six pupils in 2023.
He said for single-session schools, pupils will keep their books in desk drawers in their respective classrooms.
