KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the 100 days Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia have been issued with a maixmum compound notice of RM1,000 for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic) said it was "regrettable and disappointing" that Thursday’s (Dec 9) event involved a breakdown in physical distancing for Covid-19.
"The organisers have been issued with an RM1,000 compound under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342), for failing to ensure physical distancing.
"RM1,000 is the maximum fine allowed under Act 342," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 10).
The compound limit had been raised to RM10,000 for individuals and RM50,000 for corporations during the state of Emergency.
However, the Emergency Ordinance that raised the limit has lapsed and has been repealed.
The 100 days Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia event was being held for four days at KLCC until Sunday (Dec 12).
The event saw a large crowd, with those attending mostly ignoring physical distancing.
Khairy said hosting an official government event such as this should have given the best example and be a benchmark for other agencies, including non-government bodies and the public; not just in terms of implementation but also in terms of SOP adherence and rules set.
"What happened was very regrettable and disappointing (especially since) the organisers previously made a commitment to ensure that the programme will be organised with tight SOP compliance with continuous observation, management and enforcement," said Khairy.
Khairy warned that the Health Ministry would monitor the event closely.
"We would not hesitate to issue further compounds against the organiser," he said.
Police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) summons payment counters at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) have also been ordered to close immediately to ease congestion.
We regret the SOP violation in KLCC. A fine has been issued to the organiser & police summons counter has been shut immediately. We will continue to monitor & will not hesitate to take further action if organisers still fail to ensure SOP compliance. pic.twitter.com/JvxmzbhLlf
