SIBU: A 63-year old man was fined RM2,000 or in default two weeks' jail by the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (May 11) for violating the standard operating procedures during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) in 2021.

The accused, Wong Lee Kuok, had previously been issued a notice to compound the offence for RM1,500 on July 3, 2021.

He was required to pay the amount within two weeks from the date the compound notice was issued.

However, he failed to do so and was charged in court.

Wong pleaded guilty to the charge under Regulations 18(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2021.

The offence provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or a jail term not exceeding six months or both upon conviction.

According to the brief, a police SOP monitoring team stopped a four-wheel-drive vehicle at Jalan Lembangan, here at 10.44am on July 3, 2021.

The team found three people in the vehicle, which was against the SOP of the NRP at the time which only allowed two people in a vehicle.

The accused was seated in the back.
