Pilot project for e-Dereg one-stop car scrapping facilities launched

KAJANG: Cars that are unusable or beyond repair can be disposed of easily through the e-Dereg system at car scrapping facilities termed as Authorised Automotive Treatment Facilities (AATF), says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister launched this new initiative to allow owners to scrap and deregister their vehicles at these facilities without the hassle of heading to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to deregister the car.

"This addresses the issue of abandoned vehicles which have burdened the local authorities and residents," he said.

Owners can bring their cars to an AATF and complete the de-registration at the centers with their thumbprint, MyKad and car details, said Loke.

"This is a comprehensive ecosystem where cars can be deregistered at disposal centers that comply with environmental standards," he said.

However, Loke said that as this was a pilot project, so far there are only two AATF, one in Kajang and the other in Shah Alam.

"There are ten AATF licences available and other scrapping centres nationwide are encouraged to apply for the remaining eight licences," he said.
