KUALA LUMPUR: The singer-composer who was arrested recently with compressed dried leaves and a number of ganja plants will be charged in court on Thursday (March 31), say the police.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the suspect is expected to be charged under Sections 39B and 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex.
Police had said they were investigating how a well-known singer-composer who was arrested for growing ganja plants got his hands on the seeds.
The suspect was under remand to facilitate investigations into the case.
Part of the probe was to determine if the suspect acquired the seeds via an online purchase or directly from another individual.
The 47-year-old suspect was arrested at his condominium unit in Kota Damansara at around 5.30pm on Thursday (March 24).
Police found 214g of compressed dried leaves believed to be ganja, and further checks revealed a makeshift greenhouse, as well as 17 ganja plants there.
The seizure was worth at least RM10,200.
The artist tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol and has a history of drug involvement for at least 10 years.
