Tottenham Hotspur stadium fire: 300 evacuated as blaze sparks scare at London venue

       Due to the fire, around 300 people were forced to be evacuated from the nine-story building in North-East London. The London Fire Brigade were called to the blaze at 10am today but were not need, Tottenham Hotspur told Express.co.uk. No injuries were reported from today's incident.

       According to the club, an air compressor sparked a small fire.

       The compressor sparked due to a technical glitch.

       Tottenham said an onsite electrician was able to resolve the issue.

       The fire was soon dealt with although two fire engines were called.

       Fans have now been able to re-enter the shop and queue for the Dare Skywalk.

       Tottenham moved into the state-of-the-art stadium in 2019.

       The stadium is one of the largest stadia in the country and has a capacity of 62,850.

       The estimated construction cost of the stadium was estimated at £1billion.

       Last year, Tottenham borrowed £175million from the Bank of England.

       The loan was part of the Government's COVID-19 bailout scheme in order to aid large corporations during the pandemic.

       The club had feared it would lose up to £200million in revenue from June 2020 to 2021.

       Tottenham was forced to cancel high-profile sporting events such as a rugby union game between Saracens and Harlequins, Anthony Joshua’s world title fight against Kubrat Pulev, two NFL fixtures and England v Australia in the rugby league Ashes.

       Commenting on the payment, chairman Daniel Levy said: "We have always run this club on a self-sustaining commercial basis.

       "I said as early as 18 March that, in all my 20 years at the club, there have been many hurdles along the way but none of this magnitude – the Covid?19 pandemic has shown itself to be the most serious of them all.

       “It is imperative that we now all work together – scientists, technologists, the government and the live events sector – to find a safe way to bring spectators back to sport and entertainment venues.

       "Collectively we have the ability to support the development of new technologies to make this possible and to once again experience the passion of fans at live events.”

       The north London team have had a strong start to the Premier League season and currently sit top of the table.
